André Bucher in fighting spirits at the European Championships
André Bucher, the 800 metre world champion, will be competing in the European Championships in Munich (6 – 11 August). He took the decision during the past few days after making good progress during his training. He suffered an impacted fracture in his left heel bone at the end of April which put him out of action. He made his comeback in Monaco on 19 July with a moderately good finishing time of 1:46:38 minutes.

I weighed up the pros and cons and eventually decided that I have nothing to lose, André Bucher remarked as regards the European Championships, for which he also acts as ambassador. He feels the fighting spirit within him and wants to reach the final in the Olympia stadium. After the long break he cannot yet assess how he is going to manage three races in three days. However, he made it clear: " I couldn't really have accepted being a non-starter. His trainer, Andi Vögtli, also views his decision positively. " It is important that the decision made by André is one with which he can live. The coach describes the specific speed as the same as last year, the only difference being that the consistency of performance in the weeks before the season's high point is lacking. Therefore, it should not be a problem to better the time which he achieved in Monaco.
