Olijar was the European Indoor champion in 2000 at age 20, and won the bronze medal in the most recent championships this past winter.
He was the World Junior champion in 1998, one year after placing second in the European Junior Championships.
His 13.15 performance during the early part of the 2002 season stands as the Latvian national record and puts him high on the list of potential medal winners in Munich. Only two Europeans currently active have run faster.
Olijar is coached by his mother Ludmila, who is still the Latvian record holder (12.90) in the 100m hurdles.
You had a good indoor season and an excellent start to this outdoor season. How do you see things developing later this year?
