Edwards is the current world-record holder in his event at 18.29, set at the 1995 World Championships in Göteborg. Only one other jumper in history has exceeded the 18-metre markKenny Harrison with 18.09 at the Atlanta Games, while the favored Edwards won the silver as his 22-competition winning streak came to an end.
He has two World Championship titles (1995 and 2001) to his credit, and is the current Olympic champion, as well as being the defending European champion.
With a win at the European Indoor Championships in 1998, the only major crown still eluding Edwards is from the World Indoor Championships, which he will attempt to remedy next winter at home in Birmingham.
You're the defending European Champion, but suddenly there is a new face on the horizon who may make the task of winning more difficult than it might have been several seasons ago. How is this shaping your approach to Munich?
