After taking the silver medal at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, elezný has won every Olympic javelin gold medal in the three Games since then.
He also has won the World Championships three times--in 1993, 1995 and 2001.
elezný set the current world record in the javelin with a throw of 98.48 at a 1996 competition in Jena. He currently owns the top five results of all time, and is the only competitor ever to have thrown farther than 94 metres.
Despite all of his successes at the Olympics and World Championships, it is ironic that he has yet to win the European Championships.
