Delivered one of the big surprises at last winter's European Indoor Championships in Vienna with his last-gasp upset of heavily favored André Bucher in the 800 metres in a PB of 1:44.78. Only two other runners have ever run faster indoorsworld-record holder Wilson Kipketer of Denmark and Russia's Yuriy Borzakovskiy.
It was the same come-from-behind strategy which had brought Czapiewski the bronze medal last year in Edmonton in an outdoor PB of 1:44.63, which he then lowered to 1:43.22 in Zürich one week later.
